Laptop Reviews: Apple MacBook MC516LL/A 13-Inch Laptop

The Apple MacBook MC516LL/A is a great laptop. I have been using this for a year and have no complaints. Its body is made from polycarbonate which is extremely durable and surprisingly light. The contours are also rounded to ease the process of putting and removing it from a bag. It looks really sleek as it is very thin and has a great 13-inch display screen with LED back-lighting that brings forth beautiful colors and graphics.

The main core of any computer or laptop is the processor. Without a decent processor, even with the best of everything else, the computer will not be able to function to its maximum potential. However, this is not a problem with the Apple MacBook MC516LL/A. It uses a 2.4 GHz Intel Dual Core processor which is not only fast because of its speed but with its dual core function, saves power usage and leads to a longer battery life. What makes this processor special is its high amount of L2 cache which plays a vital role in running the computer.

Besides the processor, the Apple MacBook MC516LL/A uses the NVDIA GeForce 320M graphics card which is a really great graphics processor. It produces clear pictures and excellent graphics. Watching HD shows with crystal clear resolution is a great advantage the Apple MacBook MC516LL/A brings. It comes with 2GB of RAM which many people have been complaining about. Personally, I feel that the RAM is sufficient and those who complain are probably those who are using the laptop for heavy-duty graphics editing. It is a more suitable choice for those who would use the laptop to run big applications simultaneously. For those who want to use this daily, this laptop is a good choice.

In conclusion, I highly recommend the Apple MacBook MC516LL/A to everyone. This MacBook has been cleverly designed (like everything else in Apple) to satisfy a wide group of demographics, making it a dream laptop for students, housewives, families, business owners and yuppies alike. Its gorgeous design will also draw a large amount of users that will buy it just for its good looks. At the time of writing, this laptop model is selling for about around $950 each, which is a pretty decent price for a machine of its class. All in all, if you are looking for practical, good looking mainstream laptop without breaking the bank, the Apple MacBook MC516LL/A is the perfect laptop for you!

HP Laptop Reviews - The HP G62-340us 15.6-Inch Laptop

Not every computer comes set up with a boatload of features and a high price. The HP G62-340us takes us back to a day and age when computing was simple and portability was a prime concern. This laptop offers substance and quality, providing everything you need without stretching the budget. Priced normally at well under $500 at most major retailers, this is a laptop worth checking out if you need a backup or are just looking for something affordable.

Some tech geeks swear by expensive laptops with countless features that they'll never use, but the HP G62-340us actually has practicality in mind. Built with a 2.20GHz processor out of VISION technology from AMD, this is a laptop that starts out strong. There's a 320GB SATA hard drive that's clocked at 5,400rpm and a tidy 3GB of DDR3 RAM to power the whole thing up.

Now some might say that a computer like this only interests those who don't know much about computing, but simple is making a comeback in a big way. People are starting to get tired of fussy, complicated laptops with little to offer by way of usefulness. These complex laptops are generally among the more expensive on the market, too, so that doesn't add to the fun factor.

With something smaller and simpler like this offering from HP, you can take computing where it needs to go and spend the rest of your time doing something you actually enjoy... like going outside for a change.

Acer Aspire AS5251 Laptop Review - A Sub $400 Laptop

Acer has recently skyrocketed in the list of the best selling laptops with their Acer Aspire AS5251. At under $400, the price cannot be beat. But does this inexpensive laptop pack enough punch to be considered among the best?

Of course, what first interests us about this AS5251 Acer laptop is the price. We are accustomed to seeing the top rated netbook come in at prices around $400, but not laptops. Laptops, typically, do not have the compromises and concessions that we find on netbooks. These compromises are found in the form of limited memory, smaller hard drives, less-powerful processors, and much smaller laptop screens.

So, let's look at what, if any, compromises that Acer had to make to deliver us this AS5251 laptop under $400 (the current asking price is $379 at many locations).

The first thing that I noticed when I received this laptop was the look and feel of the machine. It's quite similar to the ASUS UL80Vt-A1, which I currently rate as the best price/performance laptop on the market today. The machine is black and comes with a 15.6-inch widescreen laptop monitor that provides solid quality with a built web cam, easily enabling you to video-chat with all of your friends.

The processor on the Acer AS5251 laptop is a 2.20 GHz AMD V Series V120 single-core processor. I am normally an Intel processor devotee but this AMD processor is fast and handles video extremely well with the new Vision technology by AMD. Many laptops that you find today come with a "dual-core" processor, but this processor should meet the needs of nearly every end user.

The hard drive on this machine is 250GB. For our money, this is plenty of hard drive space that will suit all of your needs. Remember, the hard drive space of a machine has nothing to do with the speed. It simply determines how much information that you can store on the machine. If you do word processing, PowerPoint, and all the other Office Apps, this size is sufficient. For the rest of us, who store endless movies and music, we always need to buy another external hard drive for our laptops. Thus, 250GB will satisfy all but the multimedia buffs, who are not satisfied with the storage capacity of any hard drive.

Now, when we look at the memory of this machine, we find the Acer AS5251 laptop with 3GB of DDR3 memory. Is this a compromise? Well, it's a bit like the single core processor mentioned above. Most of the top selling laptops today come with 4GB of memory, but we could reasonably ask the question: Is this overkill? Again, the standard end-user can get by with 3GB of memory just fine. In fact, I know folks who still get by just fine with 1 or 2GB of memory in their machines and they are frequently running multimedia.

Finally, the clincher that this is a good buy is that it comes equipped with an HDMI port. An HDMI port is the best way to connect a laptop to LCD TV, which is a great way to show a room full of people your picture and movies.

To summarize this Acer Aspire5251 review, I would say that this system sacrifices little for all that it offers. You will have a laptop that performs above-average at a price that is not only affordable but downright inexpensive.

The Top 10 Laptop Care Tips - Dramatically Extend The Life Of Your Laptop

There are several things that you should really do to take care of your laptop when you are trying to make sure it lasts a long time. From the most simple maintenance to that which requires a few minutes of your time it can significantly increase the life of your laptop and in return save you a bundle of money. With these simple and easy to follow suggestions you are sure to help you learn how to take care of your laptop like a pro.

1) Locking your notebook - This might sound unnecessary but locking your laptop will keep anyone around you from looking at what you are working on and ensure that anything private stays that way. To lock your laptop easily all you have to do is just press the Windows Key + L at the same time and it will lock your laptop. To unlock your laptop simply press Ctrl + Atl + Del and then enter your password and you will be returned back to exactly where you were previously.

2) Vent maintenance - This means you need to check all of the vents on your laptop at least once a week to ensure that they are clear and not blocked. Be sure you do not push anything into the air vents; the safest way to clean these vents typically is using a simple can of air that can be purchased at most computer supply stores.

3) Check the fan - If your fan is not working correctly you could experience some huge problems with your laptop overheating, which can cause problems with your monitor, memory or even the hard drive. To avoid this problem you need to make sure that the fan is working properly. If you are unsure whether the fan is working properly check the website for the laptop manufacturer, you can frequently find software there to use for testing purposes.

4) Keeping lap burn to a minimum - This may seem like a minor detail but when you experience it you will suddenly notice the significance of this. In order to help prevent this and ensure your laptop is getting proper airflow make sure you are using something such as a desk or similar hard surface to hold your laptop anytime you are using it.

5) Avoiding soft spots - This is a problem that is quite common for many people, if you are just sitting around on the couch you might prop your laptop up on a pillow on your lap. This may seem like a great idea but it can cause a huge problem since it can significantly restrict the airflow to fans and vents causing your laptop to heat up significantly.

6) Safely storing your laptop - While the great laptop bags that are sold are wonderful for transporting your laptop it is very important that you turn your laptop off before you actually put it into the bag. If you do not power it down you could melt your laptop or potentially catch it on fire.

7) Drinks beware - If you are thinking about getting a drink it is important to make sure that your drink is as far away from your laptop as possible. Drinks and laptops do not mix well under any circumstances regardless of what you are drinking.

8) Avoiding shocks - If you are looking to move your laptop around a bit you should always ensure that it is on a sturdy surface that will protect it from unexpectedly jostling around. If the laptop is well protected you can safely move it around, however if the laptop is not stable you should turn it off before moving it around.

9) Humidity is not your friend - regardless of the reason for the humidity, you should do your best to protect your laptop from humidity. This can cause damage to the motherboard as well as possible damage to the screen.

10) Dust is the enemy of your computer - You should always make sure that your laptop is kept away from dust; this can clog fans and even vents which will cause your laptop to heat up significantly. To help protect the laptop it is important to look for a way to protect your computer such as keeping it on a table or a desk.

Bonus) Off the floor - There is never any reason to leave your laptop on the floor even for a brief moment. While it might seem like a good place for only a moment it can create problems if you have a pet that decides to use the computer as a chew toy, or if someone accidentally steps on the laptop.

Bonus) Surge protectors are critical - This can allow you to adequately protect your computer in the event that a power surge occurs, which could damage your computer.

Bonus) Protect the screen - If you are in the habit of storing papers between the screen of your laptop and the keyboard it is possible to scratch the screen from the paper. This can create an extremely large repair bill that you would be left with. Avoid this as much as possible to ensure that your screen is protected.

Learning how to properly care for your laptop is really quick and easy, but will certainly allow your laptop to last much longer. As long as you are willing to take some basic precautions for your laptop, you are going to enjoy a lot of usage.

Laptops which are powered by an Intel Core i7 CPU are some of the best laptops available today on the market. Top laptop brands have already started to take advantage of the Intel i7 CPU power and they have released some of the most powerful notebooks, suitable for those who require a lot of computing power for high demanding applications and need portability on their side.

Intel is currently at the 3rd generation of Intel Core i7 mobile and desktop processors, also known as Ivy Bridge CPUs. So before rushing into buying an Intel core i7 laptop, it is good to make yourself familiar with all the i7 CPU series to avoid any confusion you may have.

The first generation of Intel Core i7 mobile CPUs, aka "Clarksfield" and "Arrandale", have been introduced to the public back in September 2009, a year later after the first desktop CPU based on the same microarchitecture, Nehalem.

"Clarksfield" Quad Core i7 mobile CPUs:

Core i7-9xxXM Extreme Edition
Core i7-8xxQM
Core i7-7xxQM
"Arrandale" Dual Core i7 mobile CPUs:

Core i7-6xxM
Core i7-6xxLM
Core i7-6xxUM
The second generation of Intel Core i7 mobile CPUs, aka "Sandy Bridge" have been introduced in early 2011. These processors have been some of the best CPUs at the time, with great success to the public.

Sandy Bridge Quad Core i7 mobile CPUs:

Core i7-2xxxXM
Core i7-2xxxQM
Core i7-2xxxQE
Sandy Bridge Dual Core i7 mobile CPUs:

Core i7-2xx0M
Core i7-2xx9M
Core i7-2xx7M
The third generation of Intel Core i7 mobile CPUs, aka "Ivy Bridge" made its appearance on April 2012, and brings a few improvements over the Sandy Bridge, which includes less power consumption, higher clock speeds and better integrated graphics.

Ivy Bridge Quad Core i7 mobile CPUs:

Core i7-3xx0QM, i7-3xx0QE
Core i7-3xx2QM, i7-3xx2QE
Core i7-3xxxXM
Now that you are familiar with all the i7 processors, all you have to do is to find a notebook that uses one of these. And the easy way to do this is to go to your favorite online store and filter the available laptops by the type of processor. Make sure to check the processor model number to see if it's a 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation i7 CPU.

A few things that I need to mention:

Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs have an integrated GPU, and a discrete graphic card may not be present in the laptop configuration. If your main tasks don't implies video transcoding, 3D graphic design and hardcore gaming you'll be fine with the integrated graphics, otherwise you should look for a laptop that has a discrete graphics card.

To take full advantage of the i7 power, also make sure the laptop has at least 4GB DDRAM, though most of them have at least 8GB.

For fast booting, a 64GB or 128GB solid state drive (SSD) is required.

The rest of features like HD webcam, 3D display, blu-ray drive and so on, are up to you to decide what you need and what you don't.

Hope I made myself useful with this article, and if you need more information on i7 laptops I invite you to browse this list I made with intel core i7 laptops, all with a configuration worthy of a desktop replacement laptop.

The Best Laptop Deals - Things To Look For

The laptop is a wonderful device which can make our lives so much easier and more productive. You need to choose the right laptop to suit your particular needs. And when you get a good deal on your laptop, it could be a wonderful benefit. Here are a few things you need to look for to get the best laptop deals.

First of all, look for a professional company that has been in business for quite some time. There are many fly-by-night operators, especially on the Internet. So you need to ensure that you are dealing with a reputed company in the first place.

Next, see if they would take your old or broken laptop and offer a discount on a new system. This can be extremely beneficial in many ways. You can get rid of the old computer that is lying around, and at the same time get a new one for a lower price. Therefore, see if the company allows you to trade in your old computer for a brand new one.

Try to look for stores that sell only laptops and not a variety of other types of computers. Laptops are specialized systems that differ quite a bit from standard desktop systems. Buying a laptop from a store that focuses purely on portables can often fetch you a better deal.

Choose a company that not only sells portable computers but also provides repair service. Since laps are proprietary systems, repairing them or finding spare parts could be quite difficult. Moreover, they need to be repaired only by qualified technicians who can handle those systems. Most technicians familiar with repairing desktop PCs may not be familiar with laps. Therefore, choosing a company that also does laptop repairs is crucial for trouble-free computing.

Getting a new laptop would not be beneficial unless you get a warranty on the system. Look for a company that offers at least a 3 month warranty on all the computers they sell. They should also offer a warranty on the repairs they do. Never buy expensive items from a store that will not provide a warranty on the products they sell or repair.

If you are buying laptops for your business, look for a company that caters to the needs of trade or business customers. Finally, choose a company that offers you the facility to finish the entire deal over the Internet. Paying attention to these details could help you get the best laptop deals in town.

What to Look for in a Laptop

If you've shopped around for a laptop, you probably understand the feeling of being completely overwhelmed by different specs and attributes. Your co-worker says CPU is important, the sales man says don't worry about screen size, your parents are asking why you need a laptop when you already have a desktop, and the opinions and options don't come close to stopping there!

Like any major purchase decision, it's best to equip yourself with knowledge and educate yourself on what's most important. While there are dozens of options, upgrades and brands, there are certain attributes of all laptops that you will want to consider before making your decision.

Primarily, it is important to realize the purpose of the laptop. If you realistically consider how you will use this machine, you may save yourself a sizeable chunk of change. If you are a student or need a travel laptop, you will have very different needs than a graphic designer working at a desk. And if you desire a computer for browsing the internet, emailing and connecting with friends, you will need something far different than what a marketing executive needs to operate many programs and view spreadsheets and large files. You will likely have to find the right balance between portability and productivity. One benefit generally comes at a trade off. A smaller machine is generally lighter, but more difficult or uncomfortable to use.

Processor (CPU) The CPU or the processor that is being used with the laptop controls the speed of a computer. The widest-brand for processors is Intel. Within Intel, there are a number of varieties, generations and models. For best performance, it is wise to go with the core duo or core 2 duo option. On the lower end, you have Intel's Pentium Mobile (PM) Celeron and Atom processors. These will slow down load times significantly. For a high-speed and high capacity processor with a small price tag, one suggestion is to buy a used laptop CPU.

Hard Drive The hard drive is what determines how much data can be stored on your computer. There are two types of hard drives you will find: the HDD (hard disk drive) and the SDD (solid state drive). An HDD offers more storage capacity and a lower price. SDD are faster and lighter, but max out around 128 GB. Upgrades or replacement laptop hard drives are easy to install as well.

Screen There is now much room for personal preference when it comes to screen sizes. High resolution screens can be found for a wide range of budgets, and in nearly all screen sizes. If you will be analyzing spreadsheets or watching movies, one popular option is a wider screen. The actual size you choose should be based on personal preference. Again, you will likely have to sacrifice some portability for productivity or vice versa.

System Memory (RAM) System laptop memory, or RAM, is what determines how many applications you can have running smoothly on your computer simultaneously. Most laptops have 2 GB, but can have 3 or more. If you are considering buying a laptop with more than 3 GB, you will want to be sure your operating system can handle the amount. Generally, a 32-bit computer will not function properly with more than 3 GB, but a 64-bit should be able to.

Battery Battery life is an important attribute if you and your laptop will be on the move. An average core duo processor generally has about 3½ hours of battery life. A general rule of thumb is the bigger the laptop, the shorter the battery life. You can think of it as the larger the house, the more energy required to maintain it. Remember when looking at the advertised battery life to determine if the time is based on normal use or extended life use as lower settings allow longer battery life.

When you consider all the different options, you may decide to take the superior options for great performance and capability. If budgetary constraints are interfering with getting exactly what you want, one great option is to buy a refurbished laptop from a trusted retailer like Belmont Technology. We have a wide selection so you find exactly what you're looking for at a great price!

Reasons For Choosing Netbooks Versus Notebook Laptop Computers

When considering purchasing a netbook computer for sale, many read reviews and compare them to tablets, laptop, and notebook computers. Of course, these people are searching for a portable option for computing. When thinking about all the options, deciding on a netbook will depend on several factors.

As mentioned, portability is the most important factor for those considering a netbook. This is because netbooks are smaller than normal laptops and other portable computers. The size and weight of these products are much smaller usually because the lack of a cd rom or dvd drive. Other features like external monitor output and various data connectors have been left out. Instead, the units commonly have usb connectors and memory card ports. All these changes are perfect for keeping the size small.

The size and options also reflect on the price. These smaller laptops are really cost-effective and economical in every way. With costly parts that are missing from the design, this allows the manufacturers to cut down the overhead incredibly. Cheaper and fewer parts make this possible. The lesser cost is then passed on to the consumer. For those on a budget that need a computer for school, work or personal use, netbook computers can be a great choice.

There is a simplicity in netbooks that many like. Some big laptops have too many buttons and options that make simple operation difficult. Some netbooks just have the power button, keyboard and volume adjuster. Sometimes simpler is better. This is all that some people need so that it doesn't interfere with what they really need the device for whether it be writing a paper or shopping online.

One thing that may be less in these consumer products is the computing power. A trade off for size is usually high-powered processors and heat sinks. This makes the computers sometimes unable to multi-task or do multiple threads of calculations. This may limit the types of tasks that can be done with netbooks. But, for students ding school work or surfing the web, these are perfectly suited for those types of activities.

There are many reasons to think about when buying a laptop. Price is not always the deciding factor. Many choose a netbook over a tablet computer or laptop notebook for their own reasons. Whether it's size, style, portability or other reasons, consumers will choose netbooks vs laptops and notebook computers. For those that don't need a desktop replacement, something simple and portable like a netbook can be a great choice.

New Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags Have Arrived

Some words seem like it is their destiny that has make them come together which people regularly use on a daily basis. However, until now you would have never thought of using words checkpoint and friendly together. However, these two appearing disparate words have come together lovingly. The words Checkpoint friendly are popular over media and internet. In addition, people use them relating to the new generation of laptop bags.

These checkpoint friendly laptop cases make sure that you do not have to waste your precious time at an airport's security point making it easier for you if you are carrying a laptop with you. These bags have a story behind them for their development. The transport department in a country invite bag makers from various companies to come with their laptop bag designs, which should be checkpoint friendly. This will enable its users not to remove laptops from bags at an airport's security checkpoints.

These types of carry cases have characteristics given here. First, it should have a section especially created for the use of a laptop, which can unfold and lay flat on an X-ray conveyor strap. Secondly, a laptop should be clearly visible from its own compartment, and should not have metal snaps, pockets, seals, zippers or emblems inside or top of compartment. Thirdly, there should be no thick partitions inside laptop bags. Fourth, when you open this bag completely, its length should not be above 30 inches, so that it can allow X-ray checkpoint to display contents of bag in a single image. Big bags may need more than one image, ultimately slowing checking officer's ability for viewing contents of bag. Lastly, it should make sure that if officer wants to inspect your bag further he could reach your laptop easily.

Now that question comes, should you purchase one of them for yourself? Adding to above features; they also help in protecting your laptop against scratches and bumps in its dangerous journey starting from you ending to X-ray conveyor strap at checking counter in an airport. They also reduce chances of confusion arising that which laptop is of whom and even minimise chances that someone would steal it from you. Transport administrations of many countries are training their officers to process and recognise these new laptop bags at any security checkpoints. Therefore, if you have a carry case for your laptop already, then in a month or so you should consider buying this type of bag because it is worth for people who frequently fly for their own reasons.

Understanding Your Laptop AC Adapter

One of the reasons why your laptop is portable is because it is assisted by a laptop AC adapter. When you have an AC adapter at your disposal, you can charge you laptop fully and thus enabling it to be used for several hours without relying on an external power source. Problems are experienced only when these adapter fail to discharge their duties correctly.

How can an adapter support your laptop?

DC power or direct current is required to operate your laptop. However, the adapter that is supplied with your laptop is referred to as an AC adapter. This is because the adapter is responsible for converting the AC or alternating current provided into the wall unit to direct current in order to facilitate the functioning of your laptop.

Detecting a problematic AC adapter

When the laptop AC adapter is connected to your device, it provides an advantage of mobility to it. However, there could be occasions when your laptop might fail to function in its usual way even when the adapter is connected to it. This condition could arise when the adapter is faulty. You can conduct few tests to ascertain whether an issue with your laptop AC adapter is there or not.

1. When you place an adapter into an electric socket, usually the LED present on it starts glowing. Similarly, when this adapter is connected to your laptop, its lights too start appearing. If both of these lights or any one of them fails to glow, you can be sure of some impending problem.

2. You will need to try working out with another wall unit. If the adapter fails to work there as well, it can be ascertained that there is some problem with it. However, if it works fine and so is your laptop then you can be sure of some problem in your first wall unit.

3. If there is some problem with your battery, your laptop might function properly. In this case, there should not be any problems with your adapter. In these cases, you need to remove the laptop battery and run the laptop by connecting it directly to a power source via an AC adapter. If there was some problem with your battery, the laptop should work fine. Else, you can assume that there was some problem with your adapter.

Your adapter needs care

You cannot work with a faulty adapter. So, if there is some problem with it, you either need to get it replaced entirely or get it repaired. To take good care of your laptop AC adapter, you need to remember these points:

1. The cords of your adapter should bend too much. When they're bent too much damage can be caused to their internal wires leading to short-circuit.

2. Do not keep your adapter in contact with water. You need to keep these devices far away from water sources.

Can My Laptop Be Damaged By An Incompatible Laptop Charger?

Laptops have now become essential parts of our lives and have moved on from being luxury devices to an absolute necessity. Electronic appliances and computers only work well when all their peripherals are in the right condition. Laptop chargers are essential as well, because they recharge a laptop battery.

A laptop battery is designed to be recharged at a certain voltage and ampere. The life of the battery is maximized when a laptop user recharges the battery at the same voltage and ampere value. Any changes in this configuration are not going to help. On many occasions, people tend to use wrong chargers simply because they are in hurry to bring their laptop back to life after it is drained of all its power.

Incompatible laptop chargers can damage a laptop and its battery to a great extent. Read on to learn more on how this can happen:

1. Incompatible chargers may be of a lower voltage - A lower voltage laptop charger is likely to overheat when you use it. For example, if your laptop battery demands a 90 watt laptop power supply, and you connect a 70 watt charger, it is almost certainly going to cause overheating. As a result of overheating, you may even smell burning plastic from around your laptop and charger. This is an indication that you should immediately remove the incorrect charger from the DC socket.

2. Temporary usage can also be dangerous - Even the temporary use of an incorrect charger can have adverse effects on your laptop battery. Many people complain that their laptop batteries start draining out soon after they use an incompatible charger. The battery life can go down considerably if you use a lower voltage laptop charger. Always try to find the right model of the original laptop charger on the internet if your old one is no longer working. Try not to use makeshift arrangements for recharging your laptop battery.

3. An incorrect laptop charger can damage your motherboard - On many occasions, faulty laptop power supply has caused irreparable electrical damage to laptops. It usually happens when you rely on a duplicate or universal charger. Many people buy cheap and low quality chargers from the market once their original charger stops working due to some reason.

Most people try to save a few pounds while purchasing a non-branded model online or from a local computer shop. These laptop chargers are prone to overheating, voltage fluctuations, and scores of other vulnerabilities. It is important never to use these chargers with your laptop even if they claim to provide the right voltage. These duplicate chargers have little or no safety features, including power trip in the event of voltage fluctuations.

It may seem like a feasible option to use a universal charger for a while. However, you will only end up causing damage to your laptop in the long run. Always remember to buy new and original laptop chargers on the internet when you are in need of a replacement.

Best Student Laptops - Choosing The Best Laptop For College Students

Going to college and you find yourself in need of a student laptop? Student laptops tend to vary a whole lot from cheap ones to really cool quad core ones (a.k.a. not so cheap ones). Finding the best student laptops isn't always an easy task. One thing to take into consideration would be what the laptop will be used for. If it will just be an accessory used to check mail, watch movies and surf the web, then those don't go that high on the price range and you could probably get away with a 400$ model. But, if the student in question will be needing a laptop to work with, or demands power from the laptop, the price can go quite high sometimes.

Depending on what area of studies the laptop will be used for, there are a few factors that need your consideration.

A laptop for someone who attends some form of social studies will mainly be used for writing papers, creating PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets. These are the average laptops which you can find almost anywhere. They don't require a lot of horsepower to run simple programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel.

If the student attends classes which require graphics work or design, then a high end laptop might be needed. If it's graphic design, then a laptop with more than one CPU core, about 3GB or RAM minimum and a decent dedicated graphic card will be needed for things to run smooth. If there's architecture involved or complex 3D rendering, then, again, some powerful CPU, a minimum of 2GB or RAM and a more than decent graphics card that's able to display a quality rendering to the very last pixel will be needed.

Another type of student laptop would be the one that is used for gaming. These laptops, like the previously mentioned ones, can go quite a lot up on the price scale, since the newest generation of games demands quite a lot from the whole computing system. A nice start is a dual core processor, with 2 GB of RAM and some of the newer models of the nVidia or ATI dedicated graphics cards. Some of the newest laptop models even feature two graphics cards in SLI configuration for ultimate graphics performance!

Before going on and purchasing the student laptop, you really have to ask yourself what it will be used for.

Portability is another issue to take into account. You don't want a bulky laptop that's extremely heavy to carry around from class to class. Its size should also be taken into consideration, since you really don't need a 21 inch screen laptop to get a paper done.

Also, the size of the laptop should also be determined by the size of the student also. If the student is of a shorter statute, then a smaller laptop would be recommended.

Baseball players or jocks could probably fit a whole 21 inch screen laptop in their bags and won't even perceive the thing as an obstacle.

Since college is a also a huge social experience, the looks of the laptops should also be considered. If you are going to study business, or marketing, then you should go with a classic black model laptop that goes with a suit.

If you are going to study art or design, then the laptop case could have the whole color palette on it for all you care. Choose something that goes with the type of person you are and the type of classes you attend.

The problem most people find themselves stuck in when choosing a student laptop is the lack of variety to choose from. Stores don't carry quite a lot of options when it comes to laptops, so you might have to be a bit more patient in your searches. For a store to carry more than a small selection of laptops, it would have to be quite a giant in the IT niche. This is where the internet comes into play, since you can compare several laptops from mega-sellers such as Amazon and choose the perfect student laptop based on your needs.

Before you jump in and purchase a laptop, you should review a few basic features for the best student laptop you should buy:

CPU - Laptop Processor

Laptop processor can vary quite a lot in speed terms, so you need to carefully choose when deciding what you should go with. A single core processor can handle quite a few tasks, such as web browsing; email access, IM chatting, movie watching and other low processing power applications. You could easily write your paper on one of these and would be happy with it.

Hard drive space- Laptop HDD

This is one difficult choice. There are people who use the basic applications they get with the laptop and don't require to store anything else on it. Then again, there are media freaks who tend to store up on everything, so they require something similar to a central library when it comes to storage space. You should start with a standard computer HDD, of 100GB, if you don't intend to store too much on it, and should go up to 500 GB if you intend to manically save everything you encounter on a daily basis.

RAM - Laptop System RAM

This, along with the processor, is the most important aspect you should look for in a laptop. Think of it this way, the more RAM you have, the faster the laptop will run, the more applications you can have open at a single time and the more work can you do in the least possible time. The less RAM you have...well... you will have to figure out how to tweak your system for best performance to go with a low RAM specification laptop.

Optical Drives

Do you intend to use your laptop as a multimedia player? Most students do, so choose a laptop that comes with an optical drive - a standard DVD burner should do just fine for starters. But if you really have a big spending budget, then choose a laptop with a Blu-Ray burner. This can ensure you could write up to 50 GB of data to a dual layer Blu-ray disk.

Wireless Connectivity

When choosing a student laptop, make sure you choose one with wireless connectivity. This is because you won't know what sort of internet connection you run across on a college campus, so a wireless connection assures you will have internet access where there's no wired connectivity.

There are of course countless small things and perks you should be looking for a in a student laptop. But keep in mind the essential features when choosing the best student laptop and all the small upgrades and perks can come at a later time!

If you are looking for the best laptops to be used by college students, you have to check out the best student laptops. You will find all the information you need to make an informed decision when buying laptops for students.

How to Fix Acer Laptop's Screen

The screen of your Acer laptop is the medium for you to look into your operating system, programs, applications, and documents etc. This screen sometimes goes faded, blank, black, or eerie, making you unable to use your laptop for any purpose. Considering this, we have created the below mentioned Acer laptop support guide for you. It will help you troubleshoot common display problems in your Acer laptop.

Instructions:

If the screen of your Acer laptop becomes dark or faded, press and hold the Fn key. Strike the right arrow key on your keyboard to increase the brightness of your Acer laptop's display. Now strike the left arrow key to reduce the brightness. When you find that the screen looks just what you desire to, let go off the Fn key. Right-click anywhere on the Desktop and select Graphics Properties from the drop-down menu. When in Graphics Properties, click Display Settings and adjust the resolution. When done, click Apply and then OK to exit the window.

Besides that, update the display drivers of your Acer laptop. To do so, right-click anywhere on the Desktop and click to choose Personalize. Click Display Settings and then Advanced Settings. Now highlight the Intel® Graphics tab. click Monitor Properties and then click Driver. Click Update Driver and then select Search Automatically. When done, click the Install button to start installing the drivers. Follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, reboot your laptop.

If the screen (display) of your Acer laptop is totally blank and black and it seems to be dead, attempt this method. If the power adapter is plugged in to your laptop, unplug it. Grab your Acer laptop support documentation (the user manual) and a screwdriver. Overturn the laptop and start opening the battery cover. Refer to the manual to make sure that you open it properly. When done, take the battery out without damaging anything. Keep the battery in dark. Now press and hold down the Power button on your laptop for 30-60 seconds. Release the button.

Plug the power cord back in if you want to charge it and try to boot. It will boot up fine. Now shut down the laptop, put the battery back in, close the case, and turn it on again. The black\blank screen will no longer appear and you will see the normal display with all your programs. This method will also work for a battery-not-charging problem in your Acer laptop.

If there is still nothing on the display but you can hear the usual fan-running noise with LED lights on, it may indicate a problem with the memory (RAM) modules. Refer to your user manual and locate the RAM modules in your Acer laptop. Use the screwdriver to open and remove a RAM module from its slot. Use a dry, soft cloth to clean up the RAM stick (module). Or else, you can simply blow the dust off the stick. When done, reseat the RAM stick firmly into its slot. Clean all the sticks one by one to make sure that no dust particles stay on the stick. When done, close the panel and turn your laptop on. It should be able to load the display.

If the display (screen) of your Acer laptop is broken or cracked, it needs a replacement. It is because the broker\cracked display is irreparable. You will need to buy a new display for your Acer laptop. If you possess little know-how about laptops, you can install the display by yourself. If you are unsure of installing the display on your own, contact Acer technical support.

Additional Info:

Owing to the consistent use, the screen of your laptop may become dull. If you spot stains, cracks, or chips that would not go away when you try to wipe out them, they indicate a failing LCD screen that may stop working any time.

Laptop Configuration - What Are Good Laptop Specs?

You are in a search for a new laptop and you ask yourself what is a good laptop configuration. This question is very common among inexperienced PC users, and the answer may vary with the budget you have to spend and the types of activities you want to do with the laptop.

Regardless of the brand name, and the laptop size you prefer, there are four components that I consider of high importance in a laptop configuration. So to speak, I will highlight what are the minimum requirements for a everyday use laptop, a laptop intended for running applications like MS Office and Adobe Photoshop, instant messaging programs like Yahoo Messenger or Skype, for playing videos and listening to music.

1. The CPU - A dual core processor is a must, but even if its a little more expensive, I would recommend an Intel i3, i5, or i7 processor, as these will become the mainstream in the near future.

2. RAM Memory - While some will consider that 2GB is still enough, I would highly recommend getting at least 4GB.

3. Graphics Card (Video Card) - for an every day use laptop an integrated graphics card is good enough, but if you plan on doing video editing and play the latest games you should consider a dedicated video card with at least 1GB DDR3, and also add more RAM memory. Watch for HDMI outputs in the eventuality you would want to connect your HDTV to your laptop as a second monitor.

4. HDD (the hard disk) - a 250GB hard drive at 5400RPM is the basic you can get, but you can look for higher capacity hard drives or for solid state drives if your budget allows it.

These days, most laptops come with an integrated webcam, a wireless network card, a DVD-R/RW drive, have plenty of USB ports and even card readers. I would not consider these as being of high importance, but if that's your case you should pay attention to see how many megapixels the webcam has, if the DVD-R/RW drive can write blu-ray discs, and if the USB ports are 3.0, the last version.

I find it difficult to work with the touch pad and it would be better if you would also buy a mouse.

Before buying the laptop you think is right for you, read the buyers reviews to see what others have to say about what you intend to buy, to see what pros and what cons each laptop has.

Laptops, Notebooks and Netbooks - What's the Big Difference?

As early as 2008, if you wanted a mobile computer option, you were pretty much stuck with buying a laptop. The typical computer consumer could walk into an electronics store and simply ask the sales rep, "Can you recommend the best laptop for sale"? Boy, have times changed. Sure, back then there were a few tablet personal computers, the amazing PDA and even a few smart phones on the market, but for the most part, it was all about the laptop.

Today, the traditional laptop is no longer the standard choice for consumers. There are literally hundreds of new mobile computers in categories including, notebooks, netbooks, smart phones, ultra-mobile PC's, tablets, and some still referred to as laptops. This leads to most computer shoppers being highly confused and not really knowing what the difference between each product description might be. So what exactly is the difference between these products? And which one is best for your individual utilization?

Unfortunately, if it were a simple answer, we'd write a book and make millions of dollars, because quite frankly, the difference between a notebook and netbook is like how to pronounce po-tay-to or po-tau-to - each person has a different answer. However, here are a few guidelines to look for:

Laptops, Notebooks and Netbooks all have the same basic design elements:

They all fold open and close to maintain compact ability
They all have a keyboard attached to a hinge mechanism
They all have a screen
In general, a netbook is often smaller and lighter than a notebook and a laptop, but there is no defined size parameter however to distinguish between all three products. As technology improves, the ability for the manufactures to cram more data into a smaller package becomes the standard fair. Because of this, the evolution from big to small follows this format: Laptop > Notebook > Netbook.

Laptops generally have ancillary drive applications, (like a CD Rom drive and Ethernet plug-ins for internet connections) where as a notebook and netbook are more simplistic in construction have total Wi-Fi connections internally built. A laptop is generally considered to have a screen larger than 15 inches. A notebook's screen size generally lands between 13"-15" in width and the netbook has the smallest of the three screens.

For the most part, if you are looking for a computer to simulate what your desktop can do in a traveling form, the laptop or notebook is your best option. If surfing the internet while being mobile is your thing, then a netbook is your best bet.

On Stage LPT5000 Laptop Computer Stand

I began looking into desktop stands for my laptop for one reason, to improve my ergonomic environment. Like many of us my work involves using the computer every day, and I was having severe tension issues in my neck with the laptop sitting down on the desk. As an audio producer I wear headphones frequently as well, and they added weight, increasing the strain on my neck.

Prolonged work with my head in this forward tilt resulted in severe tension, and believe it or not, I developed a whooshing sound in my left ear due to muscle pressure placed on an artery in my neck.

One computer desktop stand and a series of massage therapies later and I'm as good as new. Posture is important, and raising the computer has helped immensely in creating an ergonomic environment. I now look straight ahead at the monitor and there is no strain on my neck.

Since owning it I have noticed a secondary benefit: I now have room for my wireless PC keyboard. My varied tasks require the use of a Windows PC as well as my Macintosh, and I've always had a problem with the extra PC keyboard taking up space on the desk. Now, when I'm not using the PC, the keyboard stows nicely beneath the new laptop stand, and with the elevation tabs in the up position it fits perfectly over the stand supports.

Since the Mac laptop is now elevated, it's keyboard is up in the air too, so I purchased an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard to keep on the desk, as well as a bluetooth track pad. Both, having a streamlined design, take up very little room so they have not really added to desk clutter. Most of the clutter on my desk is not a result of computer equipment anyway.

Other laptop stands I found through my researched did not have sufficient elevation. The lowest setting on the LPT5000 is high enough for me, and actually higher than the maximum setting on most other stands, plus it's adjustable up from there. As a musician I work with a small MIDI keyboard controller on occasion, and it fits partway under this stand, increasing ease of use (since I do my music work on the Mac) and reducing desktop clutter.

Other reviews online mention that the design of the bottom supports prevents certain equipment from fitting beneath the stand. That may be true, but it depends on the application. Also, you could easily put some rubber feet on the bottom of any component to raise it a half-inch and it would fit better.

It's a little bit of a pain in the neck to assemble, no pun intended, but it makes up for that in performance. Don't worry about the sturdiness or quality of this stand, it is solid and very secure.

For enhancing the desktop work environment and preventing neck strain the LPT5000 is a worthwhile investment.

Laptop Configuration - Understanding the Specifications!

Ever been in the situation where you're out to get a laptop, and when you finally come across a selection of laptops with their configurations display you just didn't know what to make out of them? Fear not, in this guide I will reveal a few simple things which will make understanding those scary specs a lot easier.

First of all, you have to ask yourself what the purpose of your soon to be laptop is. Is it an everyday use laptop, used to write papers and just carry it around to surf the web... something like a laptop a student would require? Will it be the business machine where you keep all your sensitive information such as client names and contact information? Perhaps you like computer games a lot and decide to buy a laptop configured to run these new high demanding games. Or, maybe you just want to own a new entertainment and media portable device to satisfy your daily multimedia desires.

Each of these types of laptops has different specs to them, but since you know what you'll be using it for, here are a few basic steps to understanding what specifications work and where they are needed.

Central Processing Unit (a.k.a. CPU a.k.a. processor)

Perhaps one of the most important spec of all in a laptop is its CPU. This is the heart of the laptop where all the calculations are being done. There are several types of processors out there, in almost every price range you might think of. If you are new to hardware, you should look for something like 2 - 3 GHz in a laptop if it will be destined for everyday use (basic office tasks including Microsoft Office Suite, browsing the web, watching videos online or maybe chatting with friends). A decent single core CPU could probably handle such basic tasks flawlessly. If, however, you wish to multitask, and open up several applications to work with, then a single core processor might not handle such loads perfectly. Instead, look for the ones which say they're dual core or even quad-core configuration laptops. A laptop with a quad core configuration can go pretty high regarding the price tag, so make sure you fully understand the use of your laptop beforehand.

Newer lines of processors have the Hyper Thread technology built into them, where a single core is seen as two cores by the operating system, capable of handling two tasks at the same time per core. These can be quite useful if you know you're going to throw a heap of applications at it and expect the laptop to run perfectly. Such a configuration can be used in machines destined for graphic design, where usually 3-4 applications are being run simultaneously. It would also be handy when looking for the best gaming laptop or your new multimedia laptop if you want to experience the peak of performance and visual quality in your media crunching endeavors.

Random Access Memory (a.k.a. RAM or system RAM)

Along with the processor, the overall value of the system RAM is a very important parameter to watch for in your laptop. Think of it this way: RAM is your systems memory, the place where your operating system and all your installed applications are being run. It's fast because every little bit of information can be addressed directly, unlike the hard drive which requires the disk head to run over a place on the disk where the information is stored. RAM is the canvas of your computer system, a place where you can get the full picture of what's being run at the present time (using the same association, one could say that the hard drive is like a cassette, where if you want to hear a certain lyric, you have to fast forward to that location).

That's about enough of the free association thing. Going back to the spec itself, system RAM is something you want to have plenty of. The more RAM in a computer, the better it will run. If you're a newbie and just want a laptop that can do basic tasks, then about 1GB of RAM should be enough to run basic applications without any problems (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, music player and even watch movies). However, if you demand more from your laptop and intend to use it like a powerhouse, your minimum aim should start at about 2GB. Up to 4GB of RAM is a good start in any graphic design computer or even a decent gaming laptop. For business laptops which could use complex applications, a good start would be in the 2-3 GB range to ensure everything runs smooth.

Just remember never to neglect this spec, since it could mean your system will be running slow if there's not enough RAM to it.

Hard Disk Drive (a.k.a. Hard Drive or Hard Disk or HDD)

The hard disk is where all your information is stored. Unlike the RAM, which gets wiped clean at each restart, the hard drive will keep all your information for later use. Now this is not such an important spec as the RAM is, but the more drive space you have, the more information you can store and take with you. If you're a media junkie, then you probably like to store a lot of music and movies on your computer to watch at a later date. In this case, you should look for a laptop with a decent HDD configuration (250 - 500 GB). Some hard drives retrieve information pretty slow since they use spinning disks to read and write information. Standard rotation speeds for laptops HDD are at about 5400 rpm (rotations per minute). These drives are pretty much obsolete if you want a laptop with that's capable of top performance. Instead of a 5400 rpm HDD, look for a better one with 7200 rpm.

A new line of hard drives has recently appeared, called the Solid State Disk or SSD. These drives don't use spinning disks as a means to store information, are way faster, more durable and lighter than regular hard drives. They do come at a price though, and with a limited storage capacity. It can become pretty clear that if you want the fastest laptop today, you'll opt in for such a storage device instead of a traditional HDD.

Video Card (a.k.a. Graphics Card)

The video card makes sure you get the image onto the screen. It can be considered an output component and it is very important to those who want serious lifelike graphics displayed onto their computer screens. With regular everyday use laptops, you can probably get away with an integrated graphics card (it's integrated into the motherboard, mind you) which uses the available RAM to run. This can be a downside to laptops which have a low RAM spec to them, since the integrated graphics card takes its share of available RAM leaving the difference available to run applications. An integrated video card is not recommended if you rely heavily on system RAM for optimal performance. Such cases include the graphics design laptop, the gaming laptop and in some cases multimedia machine.

You do want to look for a dedicated (replaceable/removable) graphics card in your laptop if you're a big gaming fan. Newer games tend to have very high system requirements, and since available RAM is not a thing you want to waste, a dedicated graphics card is the best solution to such a machine.

It should be noted that some of the newer processors that have just come out in the market do have an integrated GPU (graphics processing unit / graphics card) in them, along with the processor cores. This means you can get away with such a spec if you intend to purchase a laptop with specs designed for everyday use or ultra portability. Eliminating the dedicated graphics card from your system means your system will be lighter and you definitely want that regarding the portability issue.

Laptop Screen (a.k.a. Laptop Display)

The laptop screen is an essential part where you marvel at the rich media the computing world has to offer. There is not much to say about the display technology in this case but its size. The display size of your laptop is one essential specification you should not overlook if you really want a higher level of enjoyment when working with the thing. There is quite a variety to choose from when it comes to screen size, so you should know one thing beforehand: the larger the screen, the better the image quality will be, the lower the portability feature becomes...

If you want a highly portable machine which you'll use just to jot down information quickly, then a tiny laptop with a small screen would be enough: these can range from a mere 7 inch diagonal size to about 13.3 inches. Average laptops will carry the average laptop screen size which is known to be 15.4 inches. This is quite sufficient to be able to visualize pretty much any type of media (web pages, documents, videos and movies). For a better experience, these sizes can go up to about 22 inches. These can be quite bulky and costly machines, since they pack quite a lot of tech in them along with the large screen, thus they make excellent gaming systems or portable multimedia players.

Connectivity (a.k.a. access to the internet)

Laptops are known for being portable machines, and along with their portability, wireless technologies have been made available to allow the users to connect to the internet pretty much anywhere these days. You want to make sure you'll get access to Wi-Fi networks to stay connected everywhere you take your laptop with you. There are some new solutions which allow you to connect via cell phone networks and use the internet wherever there is mobile phone coverage.

Now that you understand the basic laptop configuration and the respective specs, you are sure to be able to make a wise decision when purchasing the laptop that's right for you.

But before you will decide which laptop will replace your old system or which notebook will be your new toy to play and work with, also consider the price and portability as deciding factors for buying the best laptop for your needs. You can't go wrong choosing one that is made by one of the top rated laptop brands 2011-2012.
